I myself am using AI more and more frequently for code generation. And yes, the results are noticeably better. Faster. More structured. Often surprisingly useful.

But does that mean software developers will soon be redundant?

I don’t think so. But our job description is currently undergoing fundamental changes.

Thanks to AI, junior developers in particular can now achieve results extremely quickly. Features are created in minutes instead of hours. Boilerplate disappears. Initial prototypes are available immediately.

The crucial question, however, is:

• Do they also understand what they are generating?
• Do they recognize side effects, architectural breaks, or security risks?

Producing code has never been the core of our profession. The true value lies in understanding systems, thinking through dependencies, designing robust architectures, and making sustainable decisions.

And this is exactly where seniors are needed now more than ever.

Because AI generates code – but it is not responsible for:

• Long-term maintainability
• Consistent architecture
• Scalability
• Security
• Performance under real conditions

Without an overall view of the project, AI-generated code quickly becomes technically clean-looking but conceptually fragile software.

Perhaps we are not witnessing the end of software developers – but rather the end of pure “code tippers.”

The future belongs to those who:

• Use AI confidently as a tool
• Critically question results
• Think holistically about architecture
• Truly understand systems

AI does not replace developers. But it increasingly distinguishes between writing code and developing software.
